Ten vessels were swept away by the current after ice suddenly began moving on the Indigirka River in Russia's Yakutia region, the press service of the Yakutia Ministry of Ecology said, APA reports.

According to the information, the sudden movement of ice caused the ropes and anchor chains securing the vessels to the shore to break.

Five of the vessels belong to the Lena Basin Inland Waterways Administration, while the other five are owned by the LORP shipping company.

The ministry said the situation is under the control of the Yakutia government. Relevant authorities have been informed of the incident and necessary measures are being taken.
