Muslims removed from Ajaristan have to convert from their religion

Muslims removed from Khuinsk region of the Ajaristan Autonomous Republic had to convert from Islam, APA’s Georgia bureau reports. They had to convert at the insistent of the head of Akhmeteli region Gamgebeli after they were transferred to Koret village of Pankisi gorge.
39-year old Nino Beridze told the APA it was difficult for her to live as Muslim.
“Though my three children were obliged to accept Christianity, we-my husband Zurab Disamidze and I did not convert from Muslim.
25 Georgian, 28 Ajarand 10 Ossetian families are living in Koreti village at present. There is no any hospital or mosque in the village. Only a 4-classroom school is operating for being educated. Drinking water is also a great problem. 36 Ajar families who were removed to this village as a result of land-slide in Khuinsk region of Ajaristan in March, 2005 could not receive 1500 larries and a car according to the State Program.
Ajaristan Autonomous Republic statesman Mamuka Nakashidze said that he was not aware of violence against Muslims.
“If necessary, the state can carry out investigation on the fact, but Muslims should appeal for that,” he said. /APA/
