UNESCO Director General hopes for no new constructions to be built in Icheri Sheher henceforth

KoÃ¯chiro Matsuura noted that when he visited Azerbaijan for the first time eight years ago, Icheri Sheher was not included in the UNESCO heritage list, but now this cultural and historical monument is among the protected and threatened monuments as well. He reminded that such problems existed not only in Azerbaijan, but in other countries too and expressed confidence that Azerbaijani People and Government would focus this issue. â€œI hope no new constructions will be built in Icheri Sheher henceforthâ€. In his turn, Azerbaijani Minister of Education Misir Mardanov said the President of Azerbaijan was always keeping the protection and restoration of Icheri Sheher in the focus and he issued appropriate order on this issue. â€œThere is no unsettling problem related to this issue nowâ€.
