Ancient musical instrument – gaval dash (stone drum) found in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan

Nakhchivan. C. Gurbanoglu-APA. The most ancient musical instrument – gaval dash (stone drum) has been found in Nakhchivan, the Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnography of Azerbaijan National Academy’s Nakhchivan branch told APA. The musical instrument found in Chalkhangala area of Payiz village, Babak Region has an oval form with 2 meters of length, one meter of width and 10-15 centimeter of thickness. Gaval dash assumed to be used during the military trainings of ancient times. Other small stones have also been found around the gaval dash. These material and cultural samples belong to II millennium BC. Its sounds differ from the sounds of gaval dash in Gobustan area.
It is the most ancient musical instrument found in Nakhchivan. Musicians are also involved in the researches of gaval dash alongside with the experts of Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnography.
