No one wins international competition announced on establishing Independence museum and Independence monument in Azerbaijani capital

The ministryâ€™s press secretary Intigam Humbatov told APA that the competition was held to design the Independence monument that will be erected in Dagustu Park (Highland park) in April-October, according to the presidentâ€™s executive order on establishing Independence museum and erecting Independence monument signed on December 18, 2006. Foreign Ministry, Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry, Baku Mayorâ€™s Office, State Committee on Work with Azerbaijanis Living Abroad, State Committee on Public Property Management, Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Artistsâ€™ and Architectsâ€™ Unions have been involved in preparing materials for the competition and solving the organizational issues. Advertisement covering organizational and technical terms of the competition has been published in some local and foreign newspapers in Azerbaijani, English and Russian, posted on Internet sites and sent to Azerbaijani embassies in foreign countries.
Those who occupy 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in the competition will be awarded AZN 100.000, 50.000 and 20.000. 34 projects were submitted to Culture and Tourism Ministry due to the terms of competition till October 1, 2007. Though Competition Commission reviewing presented works announced that the competition took place, it made a decision on not giving places to any participant as projects did not meet standards of the competition. As to the results on appreciating presented projects, taking into account that there are interesting, fascinating works for their philosophical essence, architectural style and ideological conception 3 best project-authors group Altay Huseynov, Aysel Huseynova, Ramiz Huseynov (Azerbaijan), Elbey Gasimzada, Zaur Gurbanaliyev (Azerbaijan) and Khanlar Gasimov (US) were awarded encouraging prize. The competition will be continued till May, 2008. Large and detailed organizing-technical terms will be prepared for the next stage of the competition. These issues will be solved after agreeing with corresponding state organizations. /APA/
