General Plan of Icheri Sheher presented

Culture and Tourism Minister Abulfas Garayev said that Icheri Sheher is the most valuable historical monument of Azerbaijan. The minister said Shirvanshahs Palace, Maiden Tower and Icher Sheher complex have been included into the UNESCO list of World Cultural Heritage since 2001 and Gobustan reserve was included into the list this year.
â€œWe are certainly anxious that Icheri Sheher is among the cultural monuments in danger. But Icheri Sheher is in the center of attention of the president and Mehriban Aliyeva. Various international organizations help to improve the situation. Culture Ministry started preparing the management plan of Icheri Sheher three years ago and it was completed by Culture and Tourism Ministry. The World Bank assisted in its implementation,â€ the minister said.
The minister underlined that September 27 is International Tourism Day and they considered it expedient to hold the event on this day.
Chief of Baku State historical - architectural reserve â€œOld Cityâ€ (Icheri Sheher) Kamran Imanov noted the necessity of taking more important measures to preserve Icheri Sheher.
â€œMaster Plan of Icheri Sheher is being prepared and I hope that the project will be presented at this time next year. UNESCO experts and local specialists are involved in the commission which prepares the plan,â€ he said.
The General Plan of Icheri Sheher was presented following the speech of Azerbaijani representative of the World Bank. /APA/
