A 7.1-magnitude earthquake was recorded of the coast of Papua New Guinea on Sunday, according to data provided by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), APA reports citing Teletrader.
The quake struck the region at a depth of about 73 kilometers, 38 kilometers east-south-east of the town of Ambunti with a population of about two thousand people. As of this moment, there are no reported damages and no tsunami watch has been issued.
The same earthquake with a slightly smaller magnitude of 7.0 was reported by the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
