World Aquatics announced Wednesday the opening of the first-ever competition swimming pool at record altitude of 2,400 meters in Bhutan, a part of the Pools for All Program to promote aquatic sports in the region, APA reports.
Swimming's global governing body launched the program in 2019, aiming to ensure accessible aquatics facilities to more countries and regions.
Officials from World Aquatics, the Bhutan Olympic Committee and the government attended the opening ceremony of the pool on Wednesday.
"The opening of this Pools for All pool in Bhutan represents a significant milestone in our mission to promote aquatics sports globally," said Husain Al-Musallam, President of World Aquatics.
