An operation has been carried out against the CHP-run Izmit Municipality in Türkiye's Kocaeli province as part of a corruption investigation, NTV reports.

According to NTV, detention warrants have been issued for 31 people, including Izmit Mayor Fatma Kaplan Hürriyet and her husband Murat Hürriyet.

Fatma Kaplan Hürriyet and her husband have been detained.

Police officers conducted searches at the municipal building and the mayor's residence. Simultaneous operations are reported to be ongoing in Antalya, Kırıkkale, Izmit, Istanbul, and Ankara.

As part of the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, several tenders held by the Izmit Municipality have been examined based on the statements of suspects and information provided by confidential witnesses.

The investigation file alleges that there are family ties between the winners of the tenders, the owners of the participating companies, and municipal officials. It is also claimed that the mayor's husband played a direct role in tender procedures, recruitment, and personnel appointments.

The detainees are accused of establishing a criminal organization, accepting bribes, and interfering in public tenders.

Earlier in the investigation, the municipality's former procurement manager, Mehmet Ş.V., had been arrested, while the mayor's former driver, Hüseyin E., was released after giving his statement.
