A ballistic munition detected to have been launched from Iran and directed toward Turkish airspace after passing through the airspaces of Iraq and Syria has been neutralized by NATO air and missile defense units deployed in the Eastern Mediterranean, Türkiye’s Ministry of National Defense said in a statement, APA reports.
According to a statement, on March 4, the munition was intercepted in time and rendered ineffective by NATO defense systems.
The ministry noted that debris that fell in the Dörtyol district of Hatay province was identified as belonging to an air defense interceptor missile used during the interception of the threat in the air.
Authorities confirmed that there were no casualties or injuries as a result of the incident.
The ministry also stressed that all necessary measures to defend the country’s territory and airspace will be taken decisively and without hesitation, reminding that Türkiye reserves the right to respond to any hostile actions against it.
In conclusion, the ministry called on all sides to refrain from steps that could further escalate conflicts in the region and stated that consultations with NATO and other allies will continue.
