Former British Prime Minister (1997-2007) Tony Blair is considering heading an international transitional authority that would govern the Gaza Strip after the end of the Israeli military operation, APA reports, citing The Economist.

Creation of such an institution is envisaged in a peace plan prepared by the Tony Blair Institute (TBI) think tank with the assistance of the United States.

It is expected that a five-year UN mandate will be required for this body to function as a supreme political and legal body.

The article says that if confirmed, Blair will receive the support of a 25-member secretariat and will head a seven-member council that will oversee the administration of Gaza.

The Daily Telegraph newspaper, citing its sources, wrote that the candidacy of 72-year-old Blair is supported by the US President's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and special envoy Stephen Whitkoff.
