Israel attacked the Iranian embassy building in the Syrian capital Damascus on Monday, killing six people, APA reports citing news agency AFP.
Syria’s official news agency SANA said, “The Israeli strike targeted the Iranian Consulate building in the Mazzeh neighborhood of Damascus”.
Syria’s Defense Ministry has said several people were ‘killed and injured’ in Israeli airstrikes on Iran’s consulate in Damascus.
A Reuters report citing a Lebanese security source said one of the dead was Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a senior commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps. Several Iranian diplomats were also reportedly killed in the attack.
According to local Iranian reports, Israeli strikes in Damascus completely destroyed the annexed building. It said the ambassador was not harmed.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran’s ambassador to Damascus, Hussein Akbari, and his family were unharmed in the Israeli strike,” an Iranian news agency said.
