Iran has told Qatari and Pakistani mediators that ending the war on all fronts, releasing seized Iranian assets and lifting the naval blockade are its conditions for negotiations with Washington, Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei said Saturday, APA reports.
Rezaei told Al Jazeera that Tehran remained in contact with a Qatari mediator who had conveyed Iran’s conditions to Washington in an effort to end the war.
“We are waiting for the response of the US president,” he said, according to remarks carried by Iranian state television.
Rezaei said it was in Washington’s interest to accept Iran’s terms, arguing that President Donald Trump had miscalculated Iran and that his threats would “lead nowhere.”
He said Iran was prepared for what he described as a “decisive war” and was aware of weaknesses in the US military.
“We are more prepared than ever to confront them,” Rezaei said.
He added that Iran had changed its strategy toward the United States following Washington’s withdrawal from a memorandum of understanding, warning that Tehran would target US bases and interests across the region if attacked.
“However, we do not know what would happen in the future,” he said.
