Iran’s Central Bank has confirmed that revenues obtained from fees charged to ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz are transferred to the institution in cash, Fars agency stated, APA’s Tehran bureau reports.

According to the information, Iran’s Central Bank noted that the funds obtained from the mentioned fees were directly received by the bank, and payments were made in foreign currency in cash form.

The agency reported that earlier some media outlets had claimed that Iran accepts transit fees through the Strait of Hormuz in cryptocurrency, however the official statement refutes these claims.

Currently, the amount of fees charged to ships varies depending on their type, the volume of cargo they carry, and the level of risk. These fees are collected only from ships that receive permission to use Iran’s security services.
