Land acquisition for the Rasht-Astara railway project has been completed, Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadegh stated at a press conference, APA's Tehran bureau reports.
The minister said that the Iranian government has been fulfilling the commitments it undertook regarding this project over the years for about a year now.
According to her, the foreign currency commitment for the implementation of the project has been secured, and despite all the difficulties, land acquisition along the 160-kilometer route from Rasht to Astara has been completed.
Farzaneh Sadegh emphasized that this work was carried out with the support of the Iranian President, but the implementation contract for the project has not yet been finalized, and a decision is currently awaited at the level of the Supreme National Security Council.
The minister noted that it is hoped that the implementation contract will be approved soon and construction work will begin afterward.
She added that Russia's financial resources will be used in the project, and the goal is to complete the construction of the railway line and put the route into operation within the next three years.
