Violent clashes between police and students occurred on the grounds of Senegal's largest university, located in the center of the capital, Dakar, APA reports citing news portal Dakar Actu.
Police used riot gear to disperse a crowd of students from Cheikh Anta Diop University who were seeking a meeting with university administration, demanding immediate payment of their scholarship arrears. The students pelted the security forces with stones. Police set up a checkpoint at the main entrance to the university grounds.
Student representatives report 16 casualties, 6 of whom were seriously injured.
