CENTCOM: U.S. military has supported safe passage of nearly 1,000 vessels through Strait of Hormuz

Despite threats by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) against commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, international shipping continues to operate through the waterway, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said, APA reports.

CENTCOM said that although the IRGC has demanded that international vessels use only routes designated by the group, the Strait of Hormuz is an international waterway and the IRGC has no authority to dictate navigation routes.

According to CENTCOM, commercial vessels continue to transit the strait with the support of U.S. military forces.

The command added that since early May, CENTCOM forces have helped approximately 1,000 commercial vessels and 500 million barrels of crude oil pass safely through the Strait of Hormuz.
