A perception is forming in Tehran that Armenia is becoming a center of activity for forces hostile to Iran, Iranian ambassador to Armenia Khalil Shirgholami told a press conference Wednesday, APA reports, citing news.am.
“A group of people has the opportunity, and they are given the ‘green light’ to come to the building of the Iranian embassy in Armenia and make disrespectful and offensive statements. For six days now, from 18:00 to 21:00, they have been making disrespectful and offensive statements in front of the Iranian embassy building. And despite the fact that we express our protest, this process continues.
We [i.e., the Iranian embassy] have repeatedly conveyed our protest to the relevant bodies of Armenia. We have stood with the Armenian government in the most difficult moments; there are many examples. We are in a difficult situation today, and what is happening near the building of the Iranian embassy in Armenia will remain in the historical recollection of the Iranian people. I believe I have said everything clearly,” Shirgholami noted.
“As for the agreements between Armenia and the US, our [i.e. Iran’s] position is clear: we have informed our Armenian colleagues that, ‘We trust you, but we are dealing with the US, which has taken actions against Iran.’ We do not trust the US. We are concerned that the US may use this [Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP)] project within the framework of its security policy. We have conveyed this to our Armenian colleagues. The latter have assured that Armenia will never become a source of threat to Iran. We have agreed that our discussions will continue regularly to understand the scope of this project,” Shirgholami added.
