Taro Aso selected as Japan’s next Prime Minister

Tokyo –APA.Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party on Monday voted former Foreign Minister Taro Aso to be the nation’s next Prime Minister.
Aso, 68, scooped 351 of 525 ballots, defeating four rivals to become party leader, as expected. The victory caps a 12-day campaign for the party presidency that focused on issues such as financial stability and how to shore up an economy flirting with recession.
Because the LDP controls the Lower House of Parliament, Aso is assured to be confirmed as Premier as a parliamentary session Wednesday.
