Washington hit with first major storm fall of new year
# 07 January 2015 00:30 (UTC +04:00)
The capital received comparatively smaller amounts of snowfall with accumulations of approximately 2-3 inches in most parts of the district.
Area schools apologized after failing to issue closures or delays ahead of the storm, that crippled major roads. The Beltway and other major roadways were either at a standstill or significantly slowed for much of the morning.
Regional airports saw minor delays as crews worked to de-ice planes.
The area is bracing for a harsh cold front in the coming days, with temperatures predicted to fall to 8 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 17 degrees Celsius) by Thursday.
