A man was shot dead on Tuesday morning in Palatka, Florida and authorities are still searching for the killer, police said.

Police arrived at a Palatka home at around 1:30 a.m. after they had received a report of gunshots there to find a man in his 30s had been shot and killed.

Officials have not released the name or suspect information yet, but have said they have a general idea of the shooter’s whereabouts.

Also on Tuesday, in East Harlem, New York City, a man was shot to death in a car and another was wounded in the leg in the vehicle in addition to a bystander who was shot in his left forearm.

The slain man, sitting in a 2004 Honda Accord, was shot at 2:30 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene.

"I just heard about eight or nine shots. They were consecutive, then there was about a minute pause before the last one. Everything got quiet after that," said neighbor Edwin Gonzalez.

According to witnesses, the shooter fled the scene and had not been arrested yet.

An interactive project between slate.com and the anonymous creator of the Twitter feed @GunDeaths showed more than 12,000 gun deaths were reported by the US media between the December 14, 2012 shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, which left 20 first-grade school children and six adults dead, and December 31, 2013.
