Baku – APA. “The United States does not intend to go to war with Syrian President Bashar al Assad,” Secretary of State John Kerry said at the hearings in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, APA reports quoting Russian media.
“We don’t intend to go to war with Bashar al Assad. We are only talking about the Islamic State,” he said.
Speaking about the possibility of the use of force against the Syrian government, Kerry said at this stage there is no such plan. He recalled that the United States is directly involved in the preparation of the rebels fighting against Assad.
“Any congressional authorization of military force against Islamic State militants should not prohibit the use of ground troops or limit the battles in Iraq and Syria,” he said.
