Baku-APA. The United Nations Security Council is to hold an open debate on counter-terrorism on Nov. 19, and Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will brief the Council on the world body's efforts in this regard, APA reports quoting AP.

That was announced by Australian Envoy to the UN Gary Quinlan here Tuesday.

Australia on Saturday assumed the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council for November, and it has chosen an open debate on global efforts to combat terrorism, violent extremism and the growing threat of foreign terrorist fighters as the centerpiece of its presidency of the Council this month.

Quinlan said the world is facing a serious problem that the nature of conflict has become more violent and intense, particularly because terrorists are much younger, much more violent and much less uninhibited about being violent.

The debate will also discuss on the implementation of resolution 2170 and 2178, two resolutions adopted in the past months on the growing threat of foreign terrorist fighters.
