FARC kills policeman, injures two in northwest Colombia

The Colombian police said Saturday that a cop was killed and two others were injured during an attack by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) rebels in the country's northwestern department Antioquia.

David Cortes, a traffic policeman, was killed when a bomb placed in his motorcycle blasted in the town of Guadalupe, confirmed Antioquia's police commander Gustavo Chavarro to Colombia's Caracol Radio network.

Chavarro said the explosion, triggered through a cellphone, wounded another policeman and a civilian, and also destroyed the local police station.

Antioquia's government undersecretary, Esteban Mesa, blamed the attack on the FARC's 36th Front guerrillas, which have been active in the region recently.

On the same day, another policeman was injured when a man shot the police station in Antioquia's town of Peque, said Chavarro, adding that the police are investigating a possible connection between the two attacks.
