Canada imposes new sanctions on Russia

Prime Minister Harper confirmed that Canada will not accept the illegal occupation of Crimea and provocative military activity in eastern Ukraine.

“So we once again announced additional economic sanctions and a ban on entry for Russian and Ukrainian citizens. We also introduce new restrictions on the export of technology used in oil exploration and mining. Canada will provide continued support for the Ukrainian people as they continue to fight for peace and freedom against the Putin regime. We are ready to take further measures suggested with our allies and partners, if necessary,“ said Harper.

Among the Russian and Ukrainian individuals on whom Canada imposed sanctions are the State Duma’s First Deputy Speaker Ivan Melnikov, deputy speakers Nikolai Levichev, Igor Lebedov, Vladimir Vasilyev, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the State Duma Leonid Kalashnikov, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Relations with CIS Countries Vladimir Nikitin, the same committee’s Deputy Chairman Oleg Lebedov, Deputy of the State Duma Viktor Vodolatsky, Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Yuri Vorobyov as well as separatists of Donetsk and Luhansk.
