Bus crash kills 20 in Venezuela

Baku-APA. A bus crash left 20 people dead and another 10 people injured in northern Venezuela's Miranda state on Monday, the Venezuelan News Agency said, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The crash occurred around daybreak when the bus belonging to the Expresos Lara company was out of control on a highway and collided with a tree, the report said.

Miranda's Fire Department immediately dispatched firefighters to help rescue passengers trapped in the wreckage, Victor Lira, director of Miranda's civil protection agency, was quoted as saying.

Venezuelan authorities said they were launching an investigation into the tragedy with an objective to determine whether there were grounds for criminal proceedings, the report said.

The injured were taken to a nearby medical center for treatment. So far, only 12 of the dead have been identified.
