The diplomat said Washington is closely working with Azerbaijan in a number of areas, for example on Afghanistan: “The country is very important in terms of cooperation in energy sector, the supply of natural gas and oil to South Europe”.
John Heffern added that Azerbaijan is important in terms of relations with Iran: “So, we are closely cooperating with Azerbaijan, and I do not see a problem in being ambassador in Baku. It would be a challenge to understand their position on Karabakh,” he said.
