Baku-APA. A medical helicopter on its way to pick a patient crashed into a rocky mountain in the U.S. state of New Mexico Thursday, and three crew members are feared dead, according to local media outlets, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The helicopter disappeared from radar early Thursday morning and went down near Newkirk in eastern New Mexico, a spokesperson with the Federal Aviation Administration told the media.

A statement from state police said the owner of the private land found the wreckage after they were asked to look around. The landowner located the aircraft on the side of a rocky mountain, which was "fully engulfed in flames."

Police said the helicopter was carrying a pilot and two crew members at the time of the accident. It was en route from Santa Fe to Tucumcari to pick up a patient. The Federal Aviation Administration also confirmed no patient was on board.

Fate of the crew was not immediately known, but the landowner said he saw no survivors in the burning wreckage. Local TV KOAT said an ambulance was sent to the scene, but it returned with no patients.

The cause of the crash is unknown. Federal and local authorities are investigating.
