American troops killed in cold blood a significant portion of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro's security detail during his kidnapping, Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López stated, APA reports.

"The National Armed Forces categorically reject the cowardly kidnapping of citizen Nicolás Maduro, constitutional president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, our commander in chief, as well as his wife, First Lady, Dr. Cilia Flores de Maduro. This crime was committed on Saturday, January 3, 2026, following the cold-blooded murder of a large part of his security team – soldiers and innocent civilians, including both men and women," the defense minister said in a statement broadcast on the Telesur television channel.
