U.S. President Donald Trump is prepared to give peace talks with Iran a chance, provided Tehran agrees to a ceasefire, the New York Post reported, citing a U.S. official.
According to the report, any negotiations must begin with a ceasefire.
"That's the foundation of any talks – they start with a ceasefire. Iran must agree to that first. The president has made it very clear that he wants to reach an agreement as quickly as possible. But if the Iranians continue attacking ships, U.S. bases, or America's allies in the Persian Gulf, they will face a response," the official was quoted as saying.
The report comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran following recent military exchanges in the region.
