US President Donald Trump is seeking to force Tehran into an agreement to end the war on Washington’s terms through new sanctions, a naval blockade and economic pressure on Iran’s trading partners, Bloomberg reports.
The US administration reportedly hopes to achieve through economic pressure what thousands of bomb and missile strikes have failed to accomplish.
One of the main obstacles to this strategy is said to be Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The IRGC has declared that it has taken control of the Strait of Hormuz and has used attack drones across the Persian Gulf.
The IRGC could remain resilient to economic pressure and use various means to respond to US actions. This makes it uncertain whether Washington’s strategy of using economic pressure to compel Tehran to accept its terms will succeed.
