United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken discussed the ongoing Middle East tensions and a possible escalation with Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry in a phone call, the State Department said in a statement, APA reports.

According to the statement, Blinken ensured that "an escalation by Iran would not benefit anyone in the region."

The two diplomats also discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip, stressing the urgent need to boost humanitarian aid to Gaza, protect civilians, and reach "an immediate ceasefire that secures the release of all hostages."
