Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine informed President Donald Trump that the country's missile stockpiles were nearing depletion, limiting Washington's ability to expand military operations against Iran, the Associated Press reports, citing sources.
According to the agency, Caine presented the information to Trump alongside possible military operation scenarios involving Iran.
Earlier, Trump denied claims that a shortage of munitions was the reason the United States had not resumed large-scale military operations against Iran.
On July 25, The New York Times reported that Trump had postponed further escalation against Iran over concerns that US missile stockpiles could be rapidly depleted.
According to the newspaper, Caine warned US leadership that if military operations resumed, missile inventories intended for the country's missile defense systems could be exhausted in a short period.
