According to him, 2015 was the year of Agriculture: “Actually, every year must be accepted as a year of agriculture. First of all, the land registration must be carried our accurately. The document covers a plot of land, but the farmer works in the plot of land. Registration and documentation must be carried our accurately. Serious works must be carried out this year in this regard”.

President Ilham Aliyev noted that big melioration projects – construction of Takhtakorpu, Shamkir reservoirs, creation of modern water treatment plant in Ceyranbatan – have been implemented for development t of agriculture: “Ten thousands of hectares will be irrigated. Farmer economies must be created in the northern regions and Shamkir. Ministry of Agriculture has introduced proposals on development of animal breeding. We were purchasing bloodstocks and this will continue. However, artificial insemination must be developed”.

The head of state said that plant-growing also developing: “We must pay more attention to the cotton-growing. The cotton-growing means many jobs and source of currency. Money given to people harvesting cotton must be increased. According to my information, those harvesting 1 kg of cotton get AZN 0.42. This figure is low. The price must significantly be increased. We must also develop and revive tobacco-growing and tea-growing”.

Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan meets of its demand for meat 92%: “We meet our demand for poultry 98.6%. Poultry production increased recent years because the state supported this sector. However, dependency on abroad in initial cost of poultry production makes 65%. The matter is about corn, soybeans, and sunflowers. The entrepreneurs also must take this into account. Though we meet our demand for egg 96%, but there is a 65%-dependency on abroad in initial cost. Milk production also depends on abroad in terms of feed and medicine. We must provide ourselves with milk and export to abroad”.

The president said grain growing is also developing: “There were produced 2,300,000 tonnes of grain in 2014, 2,900,000 tonnes in 2016. However, we must meet our demand for grain 100%. There is a 20%-dependency on abroad in grain-growing in terms of fertilizer and medicine”.

President Ilham Aliyev also stressed importance of acceleration of construction of the fertilizer plant: “Works must also be carried out on medicine production. We fully meet our demand for salt, sugar and sugar products. However, there is 80%-dependency on abroad. The raw material for sugar is imported from abroad. Therefore, we must plant more sugar bee. We can meet our demand for vegetable oil and margarine only 67% and depend on abroad 80%. The matter is about raw material. We meet our demand for unsalted butter 60% but we can meet 100%. There is 10%-dependence on abroad in juice”.

Head of state noted that all of these are the indicators of development: “in the Soviet period, we were buying butter, cheese and other products from Russia, Ukraine. But now, we are developing in these spheres”.
