The development of agriculture can’t be imagined without water, Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sarvan Jafarov said at the hearing on "Water management of the country: problems and new challenges" held jointly by the Milli Majlis Natural Resources, Energy and Ecology, and Agrarian Policy Committees, APA reports.

According to him in recent years, due to the impact of global climate changes, the reduction of water reserves in the sources has resulted in the formation of a number of difficulties in the water supply of the agricultural area: "According to the official land balance, the total agricultural land area of our country is 4.78 mln. hectares (55%), of which 1.48 mln. hectare is irrigated land. It can be said that 80-90 percent of agricultural products, including all export-oriented agricultural products, are grown on irrigated lands."
