“State support for the agricultural sector has been increased, and as a result of the measures taken, production and export potential in traditional sectors such as cotton growing, tobacco growing, viticulture and winemaking has increased significantly. The level of self-sufficiency in several key products has improved, and full self-sufficiency has been achieved in fruits, vegetables and eggs," Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Territorial and Organizational Issues Department, Zeynal Naghdaliyev, said at a regional meeting in Guba, APA reports.

It was noted that a positive dynamics has also been observed in the level of self-sufficiency in meat, milk, fish and potato products.

“A number of major projects have been implemented to provide irrigation water to agricultural lands, the use of modern irrigation systems has been expanded, large reservoirs have been built, irrigation canals have been reconstructed, and this process is continuing.

Extensive work has been carried out to equip the agricultural sector with machinery, and the machinery fleet has been almost completely renewed.

These reforms implemented in our country have also made it necessary to bring additional land plots into cultivation. In accordance with the President’s instructions, an additional 169,100 hectares of land that had been acquired by private individuals or leased on a long-term basis, withdrawn from agricultural circulation and left completely unused, have been returned to cultivation. In line with the President’s instructions, 52 agroparks have been established in 32 districts.”

It was noted that the establishment of agroparks has played a special role in more broadly promoting entrepreneurship, producing competitive agricultural products, eliminating dependence on imports for certain agricultural products and increasing employment.

The provision of direct subsidies to agricultural producers has been recognized as a key state support mechanism for the comprehensive development of the agricultural sector and ensuring food security.

The newly introduced subsidy mechanisms promote regional specialization, the application of innovative technologies, the efficient use of land and water resources, and sustainable development as a whole.”
