Specific targets have been set under the “State Program for the Development of Production and Processing of Agricultural, Fisheries and Aquaculture Products in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2026–2030,” Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Department for Territorial and Organizational Issues Zeynal Naghdaliyev said at a regional meeting in Guba dedicated to discussing the program, APA reports.
He noted that the expansion of areas using modern irrigation systems, increasing productivity in wheat and cotton farming in specialized districts, expanding intensive orchards and greenhouse complexes, enhancing cold storage and grain silo capacities, improving livestock breeding, increasing the production of poultry meat, milk, beef, mutton and eggs, as well as boosting aquaculture production are among the key priorities.
“These targets once again demonstrate that the State Program is focused on development based on high productivity, efficiency and added value,” he said.
It was emphasized that the efficient use of water and land resources is one of the main priorities of the State Program. Particular attention should be paid to the introduction of modern irrigation systems, improvement of on-farm irrigation networks, cleaning of existing canals, and strengthening public awareness efforts regarding water use.
“Increasing productivity in the agricultural sector, improving irrigation and energy supply, introducing modern technologies, and ensuring the timely implementation of agrotechnical measures can only be achieved through the joint efforts of all implementing institutions.
More than AZN 2 billion is expected to be allocated through state funding for the implementation of the measures envisaged by the State Program, while more than AZN 3 billion is expected to be attracted from the private sector.
Considering that the adopted State Program must be implemented within four and a half years, and guided by the task set by the President, we must begin its implementation immediately without losing time.
We can fully achieve the tasks set by President Ilham Aliyev through coordinated activities of all central and local executive authorities and by mobilizing the investment and management capabilities of the private sector,” Naghdaliyev added.
