Azerbaijan increases grain production by 14%

Baku. Nijat Mustafayev – APA-Economics. In Azerbaijan, the worth of total agricultural products in real prices made AZN 4,763.7 mln in 2012. The worth in stable prices rose 5.8% compared with 2011, including plant-growing products – 5.8%, animal breeding products – 5.9%.

State Statistical Committee says initially 2,802,300 tonnes of grain (including corn) were gathered from 1,030,800 hectares (27.2 centners from each hectare), up 14% or 343,800 tonnes from previous year.

“65.9% or 1,847,400 tonnes of produced grain was wheat, 6.5% or 181,900 tonnes - corn”.

Along with this, the raw cotton production made 56,800 tonnes, down 14.4% from 2011. This was caused by decrease of sewing area from 42,800 hectares to 29,200 hectares. Though the sewing area decreased, the productivity rose to 19.5 centners from 15.5 centners.

Tobacco production rose 19.3% to 4,300 tonnes.
