Minister: Investment required under State Program estimated at AZN 5.9 billion

The implementation of the “State Program for the Development of Production and Processing Sectors of Agricultural, Fisheries and Aquaculture Products in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2026–2030” envisages an average annual growth of at least 2% in gross domestic product generated in agriculture, forestry and fisheries, and an average annual growth of 6% in exports of agricultural, fisheries and processed products during 2026–2030, Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov said at a regional meeting held in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic to ensure the implementation of the “State Program for the Development of Production and Processing Sectors of Agricultural, Fisheries and Aquaculture Products in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2026–2030,” APA-Economics reports.

According to him, the main targets in crop production include increasing the average yield of wheat and cotton to 50 centners per hectare in specialized districts, raising wheat production nationwide by 20% and cotton production by 17%. It is planned to expand the area equipped with modern irrigation systems from 130,000 hectares in 2025 to approximately 300,000 hectares by 2030. The area of intensive orchards is targeted to increase from 50,000 hectares to 70,000 hectares, while greenhouse complexes are expected to expand from 1,500 hectares to 2,000 hectares.

“In the livestock sector, it is targeted to increase the share of highly productive pedigree cattle in the total herd from 2.5% to approximately 10%, increase beef production in slaughter weight by at least 20%, and milk production by at least 10%. It is also planned to increase poultry meat production by at least 30% and egg production by approximately 27%, as well as establish new poultry houses and modern slaughterhouses.

In the aquaculture sector, production volume is planned to increase from 3.4 thousand tons to approximately 7.7 thousand tons, while one agropark will be established and development zones will be identified in this field,” the minister noted.

He added that the total investment required under the State Program is estimated at 5.9 billion manats. Of this amount, 2.2 billion manats are expected to be provided through state support, while 3.7 billion manats will come from private sector investment. The impact of the infrastructure and institutional foundations to be created within the framework of the program is expected to continue beyond 2030.
