It is planned to prepare and implement legal, institutional and support measures for the development of seed production (seedling cultivation) in Azerbaijan, APA-Economics reports.
This issue is reflected in the “State Program on the development of production and processing sectors of agricultural, fisheries and aquaculture products in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2026-2030.”
According to the document, in 2026-2030, the Law “On Seed Production” and other normative documents will be updated, the activities of scientific research institutions and organizations producing seeds, as well as the Seed Fund, will be improved, and proposals will be prepared regarding the improvement of state control over imported seeds and subsidization instruments related to seed production.
At the same time, it is planned to optimize the activities and improve the material and technical base of scientific research institutions and organizations producing seeds and the Seed Fund, promote contract-based seed production with the participation of the private sector, and apply result-oriented subsidization instruments in the field of seed production.
In parallel, it is targeted to establish a state control system for seeds imported into the country, increase seed production, and improve self-sufficiency in this field.
