Advanced genetic material banks (collections) for the genetic resources of local animal breeds and plant species will be established in Azerbaijan, APA-Economics reports.
This issue is reflected in the “State Program for 2026–2030 on the development of production and processing sectors of agricultural, fisheries and aquaculture products in the Republic of Azerbaijan”.
According to the document, during 2026–2030, it is envisaged to create a working group and assess the current situation in order to ensure coordinated activities across the country.
At the same time, measures for the collection, storage, protection, and registration of genetic resources will be implemented, while the creation of genetic material banks and related databases for indigenous animal breeds and plant species existing in the country, especially those under threat of extinction, has been identified as a target.
