"Project estimate documents have been prepared for the reconstruction of the Sarsang Reservoir, which has a capacity of 560 million cubic meters, as well as for reservoirs in Aghdam, Aghdara, Kalbajar, and other liberated territories. Their construction will begin," Rafig Aslanov, Head of the State Water Use and Protection Control Service under the State Water Resources Agency, said during a public hearing of the Parliamentary Committee on Agrarian Policy on the topic "Support for Entrepreneurship in the Agricultural Sector: Outcomes and Prospects," APA reports.
He stated that the Khudafarin and Giz Galasi reservoirs have been constructed on the Araz River in cooperation with Iran: “Efficient and economical use of water is also very important. As a result of comprehensive measures taken to prevent problems with water supply for the population, 4.3 billion cubic meters of additional water were collected in reservoirs in 2024. A total of 1,431,000 hectares of agricultural land have been provided with irrigation water. Based on the current water reserves in the reservoirs, we can say there will be no issues with irrigation of cultivated lands. Project estimate documents for the Turyanchay Reservoir have been prepared. These matters are being clarified by the Water Commission. If a decision is made, the construction of the Turyanchay Reservoir will be carried out.”
