Japan moves to extend a $3.4 million Grant Assistance for Underprivileged Farmers in Azerbaijan

Baku. Rashad Suleymanov – APA-Economics. Under an Exchange of Notes signed in Baku on Friday, the Government of Japan is extending a Grant Assistance for Underprivileged Farmers (2KR) amounting 300 million yen (approximately $3.398 million) in Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan’s Minister of Agriculture Ismat Abasov said 773 farming machines, including 212 tractors, 207 combine harvesters and other vehicles were leased to farmers in Azerbaijan under the Exchange of Notes.
“Besides, 62 combine harvesters, 64 tractors and other machines were bought in 2004 through funds came to the Partnership Fund from the lease of farming machines that had been purchased through the Japanese grants. Then, 25 Sampo combine harvesters were bought in 2005 through a 200 million yen grant,” he added.
Japan’s ambassador to Azerbaijan Mr. Masamitsu Oki added that his country has to date offered in total $26.78 million worth of 8 grant aids to Azerbaijan within the scope of the 2KR Programme, and will continue Aid for Increase of Food Production.
As part of Japan’s Official Development Assistance to the Republic of Azerbaijan, $730 million has been allocated to the latter.
Japan’s Official Development Assistance to the Republic of Azerbaijan covers large projects, including agricultural improvement, power plants, increase of food production, societal, cultural and human resources development and so on.
