Potato harvesting starts in Gadabay

Gadabay. Nazakat Mashadialigizi â€“APA. Potato harvesting season started in Azerbaijanâ€™s Gadabay Region. Unlike the lowland zone, harvesting season begins later in Gadabay because of its mountainous geographic relief. Deputy Head of Gadabayâ€™s Executive Power Rustam Nagiyev told APA local bureau that unstable and rainy weather conditions in spring expected to effect negatively on harvesting, but it was not so. â€œThis year 150 thousand ha potato field was cropped and we expected to yield more than 200 thousand tons potatoâ€.

Farmers also said they expected higher harvesting this year. 10-15 tons potato expected to be yielded in a hectare. However the farmers concern about the low price of potato in the market. They told APA local bureau they needed in depots and storages to save the harvest. The farmers have to build individual underground storages in their yards where the harvest rots sometimes.

The potato harvesting in Gadabay will last until the end of September.
