Azerbaijan and Turkey sign cooperation agreement on protection and quarantine of plants -<font color=red> PHOTO</font>

Welcoming the guest, Abasov said that at present time, 485 of Azerbaijani citizens live in villages, the number of people engaged in agriculture is 1.5 mln. The minister added that by 2020, country’s economy is considered to double and significant part of this growth will happen at the expense o0f agrarian sector: ‘In terms of intensification these works, Azerbaijan is ready to cooperate with Turkey in all spheres of agriculture’.

Mehmet Eker expressed that agricultural production within the last 8 years rose from $23 bn up to $63 bn in Turkey: ‘Turkey climbed to 7th place with this figure in the world and 1st in Europe’.
‘Turkey is interested in expanding the cooperation with Azerbaijan. Up to this day, Turkish investors invested $180 mln to agrarian sector of Azerbaijan, which is very low than the potential’, added minister.

During the meeting, Azerbaijani and Turkish governments signed a cooperation agreement on protection and quarantine of plants. After the signature, Eker noted that both countries can collaborate in cultivation, irrigation, land consolidation, seed, plant-quarantine and etc spheres: ‘Turkey achieved great successes in seed-growing and it exports seed to the world’.

Abasov said that though Azerbaijan and Turkey cooperate in agricultural sphere, it is not at the satisfactory level for both countries: ‘As a result of today’s discussions we decided to expand the relations and increase production’.
