Swiss ambassador to Azerbaijan meets with minister of agriculture

Baku â€“ APA-Economics. Today, Minister of Agriculture of Azerbaijan Ismat Abbasov met with Swiss Ambassador to Azerbaijan Sabine Ulmann Shaban.

According to Ministry, the meeting aims discussion of latest situation related with project on â€œincrease of agricultural opportunities of IDPs in newly-constructed settlements in Aghdamâ€ implemented by UN FAO and jointly financed by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and bilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Switzerland in agricultural sphere.

Minister noted that, the cooperation between Azerbaijan and Switzerland in agrarian-industrial complex developed dynamically. According to him, Azerbaijan has imported processed fruit-vegetable and walnuts and hazelnuts, tobacco, alcoholic and soft drinks, grain, flour, milky products, cacao and confectionery and other products in amount of $749,500. At the same time, Azerbaijan exported fruits, hazelnut and walnuts, meat and fish products to Switzerland in amount of $ 308,000.

Swiss Government made some contribution to support of measures carried out in direction of development of agrarian sector and progressive changes in agricultural sphere of Azerbaijan. That is, in parallel with Azerbaijani Government, Swiss government also took part in the financing of project â€œCapacity Building in Rural Development for Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) and Refugees in New Settlements of Agdam regionâ€, which has been realized by FAO since 2007.

The minister Abasov brought to notice the offers in several directions for development of cooperation in agricultural sphere between Azerbaijan and Switzerland.

The ambassador thanked for sincere reception, spoke about the effectiveness of the realized project and invited Abasov to official completion ceremony of project â€œCapacity Building in Rural Development for Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) and Refugees in New Settlements of Agdam regionâ€, to be held in Agdam region on May 17 and agricultural exhibition to be held before the ceremony.
