Baku - APA-Economics. India banned the import of food from Japan, starting on Tuesday, for fear of radioactive contamination from nuclear power plants with problems in Fukushima, Japan, Business Area reported.

The government also says the ban is intended to prevent children from being contaminated.

As reported by NHK on Wednesday, the Indian government said the ban will last for three months or until there is credible information that the risk of danger in Fukushima plant has subsided. Food imports include typical Japanese foods for supermarkets and food ingredients for Japanese restaurants.
