Cognac price rises in Russia

Baku – APA-Economics. The following year, brandy and cognac await the fate of vodka - these alcoholic beverages will also have a price floor. As of 2011, the cheapest half-liter bottle of brandy is going to cost 190-210 rubles ($6.3-7), to say nothing of the taste or quality of this beverage, BCM reported.

The decision on this matter has already been taken at Rosalkogolregulirovanie (Federal Service for Alcohol Market Regulation).

The cognac market participants have positively reacted to the news. According to the representatives of large enterprises, the cheap brandy production uses low-grade materials and negatively affects the sales of brandy as a whole.

"We have repeatedly stated: the introduction of minimum prices will apply to the entire range of alcoholic beverages. But there can be no question about a one-stage introduction of such prices – everything will be gradual, as each level of the price floor is carefully studied. The main objective is to remove the underhand products and surrogates from the market, and not to hurt the legal and law-abiding manufacturers", said a source at Rosalkogolregulirovanie.
