Azerbaijan and FAO to present Draft National Medium Term Priority Framework

Baku. Rashad Suleymanov â€“ APA-Economics. The Government of Azerbaijan and the Representation of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) in Azerbaijan will hold a Final Workshop to present and discuss the Draft National Medium Term Priority Framework (NMTPF) on 10 December 2009.

The NMTPF is a framework document prepared with each member country of FAO to outline the priority areas of work jointly implemented for duration of three years.

The draft framework for Azerbaijan focuses on:

1. Enabling Environment for Agriculture, Livestock, Forestry and Fishery Development
2. Protection and Management of Natural Resources
3. Sustainable Equity-driven Agriculture Production and Income Generation
4. Improvement of Rural Infrastructure
5. Strengthening the Policy and Legal Framework for Agriculture and Rural Development

The NMTPF will provide the ground for further assistance to the agriculture and rural sector of the Republic of Azerbaijan. It outlines FAOâ€™s possible assistance in collaboration with the national authorities and other development partners towards achieving the national development objectives in agricultural and rural development as well as the Azerbaijani Millennium Development Goals. It aims at complementing and contributing to the strategic objectives of the UN common system expressed in the UN Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) 2011-2015.

The overall aim of the Workshop is to present, discuss and agree with the concerned parties on the draft NMTPF document so as to reach a consensus on the priorities for FAOâ€™s assistance during the next three years.

The participants represent all concerned governmental organizations, including the Cabinet of Ministers, the Ministries of Agriculture, Ecology and Natural Resources, Economic Development, Research Institutions. Representatives from the donors community, International agencies and financial institutions, NGOs and the private sector will also attend.
