Grain import customs duty expected to rise 100%

The minister said customs duty could be raised for protection of interests of local producers, to support them and to provide sale of grain produced in the country. The ministry already sent its proposal to the Cabinet of Ministers.

Abbasov said current price of imported grain was $250 per ton and added that increase of customs duty wouldn’t effect on the bread price.

He said Azerbaijan expected to produce 2.2 mln tons of grain this year. More than 591 thousand tons of grain was imported in January-June, 2009. It costs 225 AZN per ton.
